I created a health script that the dagger could accesses. This allows it to reduce the value in the health script while destroying the enemy (or player) when the value reaches zero. This was added to a place holder enemy. Health mechanics and enemies were meant to be worked on after all the weapons were finished. I tested the dagger and it all went as planned.
